Senior Food Pantry
Our Senior Food Pantry is based out of the Caring Heart Legacy Center at 1204 North Main Street, Arab, Alabama 35016. We provide monthly food distributions to seniors aged 65 and older to help supplement the food they are able to obtain on their own. The food distributed every month includes nonperishable items, meat, cereal, fruits, vegetables and bread. Some food pantries give away a variety of items that may not go together or damaged items like dented cans. We try very hard to make our distributions meal-based so seniors can prepare meals using the food we provide that will last for a period of days.
Seniors seeking support from the Senior Food Pantry should go to our Thrift Store to complete an enrollment form. The Thrift Store is located at 165 Main Street, Arab, Alabama 35016. We also hold local events occasionally so people can sign up to receive support from the Senior Food Pantry.
To be eligible to receive monthly distribution support from the Senior Food Pantry, you must be at least 65 years old and you must live within 10 miles of the City of Arab as shown on the map below. You will be asked to provide proof of where you live using a photo ID or a utility bill. You must also meet the following income requirements (for 130% of the federal poverty level):

If you would like to volunteer to help with the Senior Pantry, please reach out using the contact form. We typically need help with stocking donated food, organizing donated food, getting food ready for distribution days and interacting with our senior clients on food distribution days. We also need periodic help with putting together shelving units or other "handyman" type tasks, taking recycled cardboard to the city's recycling center on Heroes Lane (near the National Guard Armory off of Highway 69) and we sometimes need help with cleaning and general organization of the house.
